Sweden. Facit 2f on cover, 'THE MOUNTAIN POST LETTER'. Unpaid letter with content dated 'Tamsö 23 Juli 1857'. Delivered to a post office box in Repvåg on the Norwegian mainland and addressed to John Wolley, a travelling English ornithologist with the address Johan Borgen, Hammerfest. According to the letter's content, a shipment of bird eggs followed to Wolley, HAMMERFEST, then redirected1.8.1857 to Wolley's permanent residence, Muonioniska on the Muonio River (Swedish Lapland). Borgen sent the letter via the Alten post office, but since this place did not have the postal address, the letter was sent back to Borgen, who redirected it to Wolley's address in Stockholm. The letter was then sent via ALTEN 28.8.1857, arriving in Haparanda on 16.9.1857 (the mail went via Alten-Maunu-Sopporo-Vittangi-Pajala-Haparanda to Stockholm). Allegedly, the letter was sent in a special envelope (which is documented at other border stations) including 4 skilling to the Post Office in Haparanda, which franked the letter. The letter is one of very few known Norwegian letters with foreign franking. EXHIBITION ITEM. Certificate HOW 4, 3, 4, 4 (1998) and Mats Nilsson 4, 3, 3–4, 4 (2026). Show less

Sweden. Collection ★/(★) 1858–1940s in visir album. Very comprehensive, old collection. Most stamps bought during 1970s. Is sold intact exept for skilling and Värnamo-stamps. Starting with Coat-of-arms, two copies each of F7–9, then F11, 12, 6A, 14A and B, 15–16. Some Circle type perf 14 including F 18 and 26. Perf 13 including F37. F39 and 45, Oscar II over complete. F 65. After this the collection is complete in main numbers up till 1940s including most of the BC/CB pairs like F332. However the collection has at some point being affected by moisture. It lookes like older material been hinged, and later on from coil stamps they have been mint. But due to moister a lot of stamps are stuck to the pages. Either the stamp itself or the hinges. We have notices that some stamps are possible to rescue, but others not. Therefore we have a very low reserve. We recomend a careful inspection of the collection, and please be careful when doing so. Very mixed quality. (100s) Show less

British commonwealth. ★★/★/⊙. There are a number of mint 1948 Silver Weddings including Aden Shihr/Mukalla, Aden Kathiri/Seiyun, Bahamas, Cyprus, Grenada, Jamaica, Malaya Perlis, Malaya Perak, Malaya Selangor, North Borneo, etc, similarly various 1935 Silver Jubs, KGVI defins such as mint complete Pahang and Negri Sembilan to $5, etc. Plenty of other good mint as well inc Aden KGVI o/ps to 10/-, QEII to 20/-, British Solomon Islands KGVI to 10/- including lower key vals, etc. Other areas include Pitcairn Islands virtually complete KGVI/QEII again including key values, a strong showing of Seychelles, St Helena, KGV view types, as well as KGV badges inc 2/6d to investigate for varieties, St Kitts to KGV 5/-, good Virgin Islands to various shilling values, across to the Pacific with Fiji, various QEII to £1 mint, Hong Kong QEII high values back to British Europe in general, especially Gibraltar with mint KGVI definitives, again well worth investigating for better perfs and types. Other better high values noted include mint North Borneo 1947 $5, KGVI Grenada to 10/- and much more. This collection was formed 30/40 years ago before the extensive 'a' and 'b' listings of SG, therefore a close inspection should yield many good discoveries. France. ★★. Back of the book only, considerable duplication with anything relating to railways, as listed in the Ceres specialised catalogue, all in pristine condition MNH from 1919 to 1930 offered in tryptic format (x3 se-tenant). Everything is listed and catalogued, as far as we can tell there is a minimum of 40,000 euro, probably nearer 50,000 euro resale value. This is a most unusual holding, the likes of which you will very probably not see again. If you are a dealer this is a great opportunity particularly if you have the time to market this online. Much of this material is very seldom seen, offered intact as received. Show less

Ireland. Used. One man's lifetime collection housed in over 70 large albums, representing every County, not just the post 1922 era but also during the transition to the Irish Free State, as well as when part of the UK from QV onwards – thus representing about 130 years of postmarks including many on cover from the 1840s onwards. Virtually every conceivable city, town, village and places present including those no longer, particularly villages integrated into towns. There are approximately 5000 pages here between the 70+ albums, all written up in alphabetical order of the Counties, an extraordinary enterprise, as well as extra research papers. The 26 counties represented from Carlow, Cavan, Clare, through to Westmeath, Wexford and Wicklow. There are well over 1000 villages, towns and city districts, all available to find easily by use of County and alphabetically ordered places, for each album. The number of stamps should be around 40,000 to 50,000. The key to understanding this collection is its depth from the 1840s to the 1922 provisional o/ps, the latter well represented, evolving through to a full postal service functioning for the total statehood of Eire. Among the plethora of postmarks includes the more primitive rubbery and seldom seen earlier postmarks in Gaelic, through to the later sharper impressions from the 1930/40s onwards. Also, interesting postmark impressions are very crisp and clear in English on the QV/EDVII/KGV to 1922. This is definitely a unique opportunity to bid on one of the most comprehensive collections of Ireland postmarks ever seen on the market, this representing an estate we have been privileged to handle. In many respects, it should be in a museum for the reference of primary sources of Ireland's postal history and indeed history itself. An absorbing viewing awaits the specialist who will enjoy the scope and scarcity of the postmarks. A collection assembled by a true philatelist, formed over 50+ years. Approx. 15 kg. Show less

Romania. ★★. Very attractive and unusual complete sheets of the imperforate Prince Alexander Cuza definitives of 1865, SG #46 5 p blue, #48 20 p red and #49a 2 p orange. The catalogue as singles hinged alone is £150 per set i.e. £15,000 for the 3x sheets of 100. It should be noted that each sheet has five empty spaces to the bottom row and each sheet is particularly visually impressive as such. There is some toning on reverse of the 20 p red and a little toning this time on the selvage of the 5 p blue and occasional toning on the 2 p orange. Overall however, the toning is not at all obvious from the front of the stamps and given their age it is quite extraordinary to see such good condition generally, especially as never hinged. An opportunity very seldom available, much recommended. Show less
