India. Mostly used. Wide-ranging collection of thousands of mint and used stamps from 19th century onwards housed in 8 albums, with interesting Native States, early issues through to revenues, incl. Baroda, Barwani, Bhopal, Bijawar, Bussahir, Charkhari, Cochin, Holkar, Hyderabad, Jammu/Kashmir, Jaora, Jasdan, etc, with unusual and unidentified items. The India with lots of early QV, plentiful high values, attractive mint multiples especially KGV period, 1929 airmail set and commem sets of the 1930s mint and used, much useful mint never hinged material of the 1950s and earlier, errors noted incl. inverted watermarks, double refugee relief ovpt on block of four, 1979 2r weaver misperf corner block of 9, as well as I.E.F. incl. on Turkey, interesting postmarks incl. The first is a 1921 cover from Linga to Bombay franked 1/2a + 2x1a arr Bombay 10 MAR 1921; A 1867 cover cancelled excellent duplex Bombay/India Paid + "1" on 1/2a East India adhesive addressed to Bushire; and the third one 5x1/2a sent to France during WWI. A small size, unusual, violet censor "PASSED CENSOR/BOMBAY on front. Also a large censor label in red "OPENED BY CENSOR". A 4th cover is from Bombay addressed to Yezd (via Bandar Abass 1901) franked w 2o-block of three pies + 9 three pies of QV of 1900 issue (one has fallen off) i e a total of 90 pies. Probably insured. Very interesting assemble. Good to very good condition for this area. Show less

That which is catalogued totals over £6,000 (for hinged), yet there is far more here that could not be catalogued, errors, varietes, ovpt and wmk proofs, etc. Highlights include 1922 Dollard set NH with the high values all sheet corner examples, errors incl. 1d inverted ovpt, red and carmine ovpts to 9d NH, a study of coils incl. horizontal and vertical joins complete, then the 1922 Thom ovpts complete, NH to 1/-, the high values with BPA certificates, 1922/23 Irish Free State overprints complete NH, coils again with all the long 'I' errors in multiples with normal, horizontal and vertical joins complete, etc, followed by the first definitives and postage dues incl. watermark errors and coils NH, narrow and wide date seahorses incl. re-engraved set all complete NH, as well as first St. Patrick high values set NH, 1940/45 defins complete to 10/- NH, over a page of inverted wmks to 2/6 NH incl. 15ximperf 1d strip of 3 NH, booklet panes all never hinged including scarce watermark varieties, etc, etc. One of the best collections of Ireland we have ever had the pleasure to offer.
