1985AV | Fiume //. A highly absorbing specialized collection of stamps and excellent postal history, written-up in scholarly fashion in a gold leaf album. Several hundred stamps including more than 50 covers and postcards from pre-stamp to 1945, with highlights starting in 1826 with a cover 'from Govt. of the Hungarian Littoral' to Livorno with straight line Fiume in red,1858 4 kr newspaper stamp with superb Fiume cds, a wonderful range of Hungarian first issues used in Fiume incl 2 kr on cover, unusually early paquebot usages from Fiume, and 'Kriegsmarine-Kaiser Karl II' cds on 5 h used from Yokohama to Fiume. Then the overprints with all the harvesters/parliament types to 10 kr incl white figures 10 h and 15 h on two covers with a mixture of machine and scarce handstamp overprints, 45 f on 6 f postage due single usage and many other attractive commercial covers incl 'franco 15' surcharge on 45 c allegory in combination with 'valore globale' surcharges on registered cover to Gibraltar, 1919 surcharge inverted errors on philatelic covers, lots of Arbe and Veglia large and small overprints incl Veglia small type set on cover, 1921 Governo Provvisorio overprints incl 2 L scarce rosso solferino shade used, signed (Sassone #160a, catalogue value €3,000), 1923 San Vito issue with distinct shades on values to 5 L, etc, as well as a fascinating range of WWII postal history, studies of Austro-Hungarian revenues used in Fiume, etc, etc. This description is an outline only, so much more here to discover.
